Laptop Heat Shield Knowledge Base
How do you protect an outdoor laptop? I have a laptop computer that will be turned on 24/7 on the roof of my building (I won't go into the why). Anyone know the best approach to shield this laptop from the elements? (ie, rain and heat). I live in los Angeles so it doesn't rain that much, although I'm concerned the summer heat might cook the laptop. Any ideas? I'm thinking about putting it in a cooler of some sort, but I'm not sure if there's enough ventilation. I'm also concerned about rain.

I asked once, and got a few nice answers, but I really want to know if this is a good deal before I make this decision. Help!! My Laptop cannot be used as a Laptop because it gets too hot.? I have a Packard bell laptop, after I have been using it for a short time it heats up and I can no longer bear to have it on my lap, I feel that this defeats the whole objective of owning and using a laptop. Does anybody know of any product that would shield my sensitive thighs, or is there a fault with the laptop? it seems to work OK.
How do dells compare to other brands? I've been looking at this dell laptop (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9886617 ) ...ignore the color if you want. lol. But, I'm just wondering, how do dells compare to other brands? I've only ever owned HP's and I'm kind of sick of their custumor service, plus, the heat shield came off and we've had TONS of problems with this last HP... and I kinda like this dell. So, what do ya'll think?? What do you think is the best overall brand? (Longivity, customer service, price for value, etc etc..)
ATI Graphics card, with these computer specs...? I asked a question earlier about me trading my new laptop for a custom built desktop, and a few people asked me about a video card, and I didnt know if it had one, and what brand. Well, it has an ATI card, and here are the specs of the computer: -Sagitta Case with multi fans and see through side panels -20x dual layer light scribe dvd burner with nero 7 -new amd5000 dual core processor has 4 gigs of memory with the heat shields -axus dual core motherboard with hdmi port -470 power supply -320 gig sata harddrive the board is all sata and also has ide if u want -Vista Ultimate -software disk for the motherboard dvd burner office etc. Is that a good trade for my laptop? Here are my laptop specs: -Gateway Laptop -Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 @ 1.6GHz -Windows Vista Premium -2GB RAM -160GB Hard drive -15.4 in screen So, for the final time, I promise, is this a good trade? I know I've asked 3 times now, but I really, really want to be sure I'm making a good decision. Thank you all!!!!
I can't ask enough questions about this custom built computer...? Ok, I've asked before if it was a good trade, my laptop for this custom built computer, but now I want to know if this, OVERALL, is a good computer that I am getting at about 9 am today. Here is what he told me about the computer: -Sagitta Case with multi fans and see through side panels -20x dual layer light scribe dvd burner with nero 7 -new amd 5000 dual core processor -4 gigs of memory with heat shields -axus dual core motherboard with hdmi port -ATI graphics card -470 power supply -320 gig sata harddrive the board is all sata and also has ide if you want -Vista Ultimate -software disks for the motherboard, dvd burner, office, etc. Is this a good computer?! Any problems I might encounter, and how to fix them?! Also, please speak in basic terms, not computer talk, because I don't know a lot about computers, other than how to use them! I am doing an even trade. My basic 2gb ram, 160gb laptop, for this (what sounds to be) excellent desktop. Is this an overall good computer? TY I haven't tested it yet, but I will be in about 8 hours. He said it's all genuine, and runs extremely fast... It sounded too good to be true at first but then I had a long chat with him and it seems legit. I'll have to see in 8 hours. Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry for my paranoia, but I tend to get really paranoid about things like this. :p Oh and yeah, I'm not sure of the graphics card model. He just said it was ATI and that it runs and looks amazing.
What are some good, affordable gaming laptops? Okay, so- my computer is slowly dying... (in this order: w/e gets you onto the internet was integrated on my motherboard- it died, we had to buy a $20 replacement. Then the both of the Disk Drives broke and can't be opened. Then something about a heat shield, I don't even know- well we had to put it back on and it's being held together by glue. lol.) It also has a bunch of other problems, and it's just time for a new one. So- I really don't want to spend more than $800. I do online gaming and play the sims2, so it has to be able to smoothly run those. I don't care really how big the screen is or how heavy/large it is, either. I also don't want it to have TOO short a battery life. So, what are some ideas? I'd condisder spenind like $850 at most. Thanks! Oh- and would you believe my old computer is just over 3 years old??!!
dell inspiron mini 9 overheating question ? well i have a dell inspiron mini 9 - and apparently they have no fans "he Inspiron Mini 9 relies on the heatspreader and unforced convection to dissipate heat. The heatspreader is actually a thin metal shield underneath the keyboard, responsible for carrying heat away from the CPU, GMCH and ICH on the motherboard." so if that is how it cools itself - does that mean im ok to set it on my lap or bed and not have to worry that its over heating - this is my first laptop so i dont realy know much about over heating - just that i dont want it to happen so can i use my netbook on my lap , bed ? and how will i know if its over heating , and if its over heated will my netbook be toast ? ok - i think i will do that then but i also am wondering aproximatly how long can i have it on daily..i will of course shut it down at night but if say im working on something nearly all day is that ok ? really realy appreciate the help guys..thanks :) also if i put a book under the laptop then set it on my lap would that be ok till i get the cooling unit...or am i probably ok to just set it on my lap till it get the cooler ?
