My gateway laptop started to heat up excessively and cannot be used without charger adapter. why?
I have a gateway laptop which served me really well till date. Recently it started to heat up really bad. And even if i fully charge it, the charge doesnt stay longer than 5 minutes after unplugging it. If I shut it down whilst it has been fully charged, upon switching on later, it flashes the low battery sign. I even tried recalibrating it, but it is of no use. Is there any idea of wats been going wrong with it?

- battery is dead
- one issue is that the hard drive is basically dead, and can not hold charge, you need a new battery. Over time the battery pack does not hold a charge anymore. This usually happens after a few years of use Some of the reasons for this. 1. You got a deffective item 2. You used it too much 3. You left it charging constantly, even after the battery was completely charged. You will need to get a new battery for it. It should run from $50-100. In the future be more cautions about how you use your battery. Charge it only when its needed and do not keep it plugged for longer than it needs to. If you are gonna use the computer for long periods of time in the same place, take off the battery pack and run it on the cord. the heat is caused by a malfunctioning fan which will need to be cleaned as soon as possible or even replaced. HEAT and DUST will kill your computer.
- Time for a new battery. And you really should take that battery out it could leak or explode, badly damaging your laptop. Buy a new one from ebay or contact the manufacturer.
- Time for a new battery. As with all batteries they eventually die and can no longer take a charge.
