Does a laptop cooling fan help game performance?
i was looking online to get a cooling fan at bestbuy and was wondering if it would help? i play games usually and med. high settings and get some lag cause of my laptop underclocking it self cause of heat. also my air intake is in the upper left of my laptop, and the hot air ejection is out the back in the upper left above my air intake, and i saw some cooling fans that have the fans in the middle or lower bottem. is there anyother kind, or all they all like that? thanks

- It's not that your processor is underclocking itself due to heat. They usually install the cool & quite software that makes your processor underclock itself when you aren't doing anything cpu intensive so it doesn't generate a lot of heat and use a lot of energy. When you start up something intensive it clocks back up. What you're getting is visual lag because you're trying to play games at medium/high settings on a laptop that uses integrated graphics built into the motherboard which are terrible. That's why you game on a desktop. A cooling bay might help your computer from overheating and crashing but that's about it. If you don't want visual lag turn all graphics settings to low or only turn a few up.
- You are right.. the cooler your system runs the better and longer it will run. Give the intake and exhaust a few shots of compressed air. Check out www.Tigerdirect.com they have all sorts of geek gadgets.
- mufinhxc isn't entirely correct, IGP's don't suck its that most don't have the right understanding how they work an which ones are design for gaming. If your laptop can handle the game on high or med and not lag out while its cool obviously its a heat problem. I only buy gaming laptops cause its pointless getting an average laptop for example I have a Gateway laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS IGP I have no problem running games like F.E.A.R. 2, Fallout 3, Street Fighter IV or Left 4 Dead on the highest settings but then I run in to problems when It gets hot. So depending on what type of laptop you have and system a cooling fan can enhance the laptop or just keep it cool. Btw if anyone is interested I'm selling this laptop OS:Vista 32-bit CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo RAM:3GB's HDD:250GB's GPU/IGP:NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS 512
