Laptop Heat

laptop heat caused marble top erosion:(?

We bought a new marble table and used our laptop on it for a few weeks. When I removed the laptop, the marble right where the heat vent had been had lost it luster and smoothness. What can I do to fix it? how do you tell what type of marble it is? Mine looks like this top: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.china-stone-export.com/image/class_img/200661256772625.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.china-stone-export.com/GraniteTableTops.html&usg=__FCgCmgSnQijJH2GRgNViESUsE9g=&h=412&w=569&sz=34&hl=en&start=1&sig2=oZWfAsxkqOj_suQUTQFXpQ&um=1&tbnid=LKiW_rlO-Cv6MM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=134&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmarble%2Btabletop%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rlz%3D1R1GGGL_en___US336%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1&ei=NXaDSr_mGeawmQe53KjMBg

  1. If it is real marble, not cultured marble, you can buy cleaning and refinishing products at good hardware stores. My favorite is called "Marble and Granite Magic," which comes in a spray can.
