Laptop Heat

How do I reduce the heat produced by my laptop?

I don't want to buy any sort of cooling product. I heard that you can put certain objects under the laptop that will help transfer the heat away from the laptop. Any suggestions?

2. I just purchased a "fan" for my laptop; my laptop sets on this little tray, which plugs into my laptop via usb. There's an on/off switch, so if I'm going to be on a few minutes, I don't need to turn it on. If I'm going to be online/on computer all afternoon (like today!) I turn it on. Paid less than $15 (US) yesterday & it's working great!
